The TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint) is the joint that connects your jaw to the temporal bones of your skull. It is one of the most used joints in your body as it allows you to speak, chew, swallow and yawn.
TMJD is classified as a disorder of the muscles of mastication (or your chewing muscles), Treatment for TMJD is often performed with lighter pressure as the muscles are already usually very tender due to the dysfunction.

It can be caused by injury, your anatomy, your daily activities, grinding or clenching, and even stress.
If you experience any of the following, you may be experiencing TMJD:
- Pain or tenderness in your jaw or face
- Clicking, popping or grinding noises when you open your mouth
- Grinding your teeth while you sleep
- Inability to open your jaw all the way
- Locking of the jaw or irregular movements
- Constant headaches or migraines
- Increased tension in your head and neck muscles

 

TMJD massage targets tight muscles around the jaw, neck and face to release tension, improve mobility and ease discomfort.
